Answer

Answer

c.

1Step1: Oxidation by KMnO 4

KMnO4 is called potassium permanganate.  It is a strong oxidizing agent.

Oxidative cleavage leads to the formation of 1,2-diol, which leads to the formation of carboxylic acid, which changes the color of KMnO4  to brown.

The colour changes from purple to brown, and diol leads to produce two adjacent alcoholic groups.

It is also one of the tests to detect the presence of a double bond in the compound or to distinguish between saturated and unsaturated compounds.

2Step2: Structure of alkene undergo oxidation

But-1-ene is the alkene thatundergoes oxidation with potassium permanganate leading to the breakdown of double bond to form 1,2 diol which on further oxidation forms carboxylic acid, which releases the carbon dioxide and water.

3Step3: Product formation

The Reaction proceeds and results in the formation of the two carbonyl compounds. The chemical reaction described is given below.
