Step 1 - Write properties of inequality

Properties of inequalities are written in following table:

Step 2 - Simplify y &#60; &#8722; y + 2 9

To simplify given inequality, use properties of inequalities. Multiply both sides by same positive integer does not reverse the inequality. Add same numbers from both sides does not change the sign of inequality. Finally use division property, divide both sides by same positive number does not reverse the sign of inequality as shown below

$\begin{array}{c}9\times y<9\times \left(\frac{-y+2}{9}\right)\\ 9y<-y+2\\ 9y+y<-y+2+y\\ 10y<2\\ \frac{10y}{10}<\frac{2}{10}\\ y<\frac{1}{5}\end{array}$

Step 3 - Write solution set

The solution set of the inequality contains all real numbers less than $\frac{1}{5}$

As, $\frac{1}{5}$ is not included in the set so parentheses is used with it also $-\infty$ is not included so parentheses is used with it.

In interval form solution set is $\left(-\infty ,\frac{1}{5}\right)$

Step 4 - Graph the solution set

As solution set of the inequality is all real numbers less than $\frac{1}{5}$

So arrow is towards $-\infty$ and open circle on $\frac{1}{5}$ shows it is not included in the solution set.
