1,3-Cyclopentadiene can be formed in the following way:

Step 1: Bromination

It means substitution of one hydrogen from the reactant, so that bromine atom can be added there.

Step 2: Alkyl halide

Alkyl halides are also known as haloalkanes or halogenoalkanes. They contains one or more halogen substituents i.e. –Br, -Cl,-I,-F.

Step 3: Preparation of cyclopentanol

The desired product 1,3-cyclopentadiene can be prepared by bromination of  cyclopantene, 3-bromocyclopantene is formed, which is then debrominated to form the desired product.
