Answer

Mutations in genes can lead to a cell becoming dangerous.

1Step 1. What is p53?

p53 is a gene that codes for a protein that controls the cell cycle and hence functions as a tumor eliminator. It is also known as TP53 or tumor protein.

2Step 2. In normal condition

p53 is used to track DNA and the supply of oxygen. And if the damage is noticed then p53 will activate the repair mechanism to take place by arresting the cell cycle. the apoptosis takes place only if the damage can not be repaired.

3Step 3. In case of Mutated p53

When a cell with abnormal p53 protein is there then it can not restore the harmed DNA.

It also cannot signal apoptosis.

Due to this the cell cycle pursues and the damaged cell continues to divide.

This finally leads to the cell becoming cancerous.
